DESCRIPTION:Join us for a SCAMP celebration of Oysters and create some Grottoes with these incredibly beautiful shells. \n\n\n\nSaturday 28th September\, Meeting at the Creative Hub\, 1:00pm – 3:00pm\n\n\n\nMeeting at the Creative Hub at Stranraer\, Nic Coombey will take you on a walk to find out more about Oysters and why they are so important to Stranraer and the outer Solway. After an adventure in search for Oyster shells we will return to the Creative hub to create some sculptural Oyster grottos. \n\n\n\nGrottos have been around for a long time\, often magical places in the form of small caves hidden away in the rocks or coves of coastlines. Sometimes these caves were carved to create decorative mythology-inspired features. They can also be man-made and became fashionable in gardens in the 16th and 17th centuries.  \n\n\n\nAfterwards\, you will be invited to join artist Maya Edwards for an oyster sand castle competition on the beach. \n\n\n\nThis workshop is brought to you by Solway Coast and Marine Project and Creative Stranraer. \n\n\n\nPlease dress for the weather. SUMMARY:‘Harbourland’ launches at Creative Stranraer Hub
DESCRIPTION:Stranraer waterfront’s artist-in-residence Maya Rose Edwards will be sharing their work with the town at the Creative Stranraer Hub (23 King Street) from 15th October – 11th November. \n\n\n\nEntry is free of charge and visitors are invited to view and comment on a display of exciting works that have been co-created with local people. The display relates to the potential future of the waterfront area as active leisure and events destination for tourists and locals. \n\n\n\nMaya’s work is a part of the Stranraer Waterfront Community Engagement Project\, an innovative community engagement project funded by Dumfries & Galloway Council and delivered by The Stove Network and Creative Stranraer. It aims to place the community right at the heart of Stranraer’s future vision for the Waterfront. \n\n\n\nBetween November 2023 and April 2024\, the project has engaged with nearly 900 local individuals and 27 community groups to get people’s thoughts about the kind of waterfront they would like to see for the town. ‘Harbourland’ is the second phase of Maya’s work\, homing in on one aspect of the Waterfront proposals – a new area of reclaimed land between the slipway and the East Pier\, which will be formed using the material dredged from Loch Ryan to make the harbour area deep enough for larger boats to use the marina. \n\n\n\nAt the display in the Creative Stranraer Hub you’ll be able to see some of the initial design ideas suggested by local people for the new piece of reclaimed land through the creative activities that Maya has staged. There will also be a digital display of Loch Ryan underwater footage commissioned by SCAMP (Solway Coast And Marine Project) screening in the Hub windows and an interactive community report detailing the creative engagement process and its outcomes so far. SUMMARY:Sandcastle Competition
DESCRIPTION:Sandcastle competitions are an ancient tradition for coastal communities\, an excuse to spend time down by the water and exercise the creative potential of natural materials. We’re hoping to create a future waterfront that is a place where families want to gather and to feel more connected to.  \n\n\n\nStranraer’s waterfront regeneration is set to transform the town in new and exciting ways\, and we’re keen for these designs to be co-created  to ensure a future landscape that reflects the needs of all communities – both human and sea species!   \n\n\n\nDuring the sandcastle competition event\, local people will be provided with their very own Stranraer Oyster Sandcastle Bucket to use and take home for future days down by the water.  \n\n\n\nThe competition will give local people of all ages the opportunity to take part in co-designing future structures of the coast\, be inspired by the shapes of their local ecology\, and build sand sculptures alongside artist in residence Maya Rose Edwards. \n\n\n\nWe intend to make use of the dredged materials from Loch Ryan in the plans for the new piece of land in creative ways that benefit the unique natural environment. This is your chance to be a part of imagining your own re-use of natural materials to inform the design process.  \n\n\n\nTogether\, we will transform the shape of the coast into a man-made community oyster bed for the afternoon. The most inventive structure will receive a prize for their efforts\, and all participants will be allowed to take home their Stranraer Oyster Sandcastle Bucket provided on the day.  \n\n\n\nHot drinks will be provided. Please dress appropriately for the weather\, all children to be accompanied by an adult.

Then join Stacey Joy\, who is back with another round of singer songwriter sessions! \n\n\n\nThese classes are beginner-friendly and will explore themes such as: ‘What is a song’ and ‘How to take inspiration and begin to craft a song’\, before diving into song structure and critiques. \n\n\n\nThose 16+ are welcome to these classes\, whether you can play an instrument or are simply interested in learning how to write songs. While Stacey can assist those learning guitar and piano\, please be mindful that these sessions are not music classes and therefore\, it is recommended that those playing instruments have some knowledge of the instrument they play.

DESCRIPTION:Stacey Joy has been working with a group of individuals over the last several months\, helping them hone their skills and building their confidence. Now the group invites the community to watch them perform in a Songwriter Showcase in a “Songwriters in the Round” setting. \n\n\n\n“Songwriters in the Round\,” was established in Nashville and has become popular in songwriting festivals in the United States and beyond. It’s a great way to present songs and is very different from the traditional settings of what would be expected in a bar.

SUMMARY:Cycle Festival Artwork Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:New exhibition! \n\n\n\nStranraer had its first Cycle Festival back in June and our Arts and Engagement Officer Janet Jones visited all twelve Primary Schools in and around Stranraer\, asking pupils to draw their idea of a ‘future bike’\, with the chance of it being the poster art for the festival’s poster. \n\n\n\nWith so many talented pupils\, Creative Stranraer came to the conclusion that it wasn’t fair if only one of these drawings was shared for everyone to see and decided to hold a Cycle Festival Competition Exhibition in the Hub. \n\n\n\nMake sure you pop along to the Hub to see all the amazing artwork! \n\n\n\nAvailable to view from 12pm – 4pm from the 8th-10th of August.
