Join us for a SCAMP celebration of Oysters and create some Grottoes with these incredibly beautiful shells.
Saturday 28th September, Meeting at the Creative Hub, 1:00pm – 3:00pm
Meeting at the Creative Hub at Stranraer, Nic Coombey will take you on a walk to find out more about Oysters and why they are so important to Stranraer and the outer Solway. After an adventure in search for Oyster shells we will return to the Creative hub to create some sculptural Oyster grottos.
Grottos have been around for a long time, often magical places in the form of small caves hidden away in the rocks or coves of coastlines. Sometimes these caves were carved to create decorative mythology-inspired features. They can also be man-made and became fashionable in gardens in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Afterwards, you will be invited to join artist Maya Edwards for an oyster sand castle competition on the beach.
This workshop is brought to you by Solway Coast and Marine Project and Creative Stranraer.
